1. What is Naturopathic Medicine?
Naturopathic medicine is a distinct system of primary health care. It has the central aim to utilize the healing power of nature to maintain and restore health. Naturopathy supports the whole person.
2. Are naturopathic visits covered by OHIP?
Currently, visits to a naturopathic doctor are not covered by OHIP. but are covered by most extended health care plans. Please refer to your insurance provider to determine your annual coverage.
3. What are Naturopathic Doctors' qualifications?
Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) have a minimum of seven years of post-secondary education. Naturopathic training involves four years of full-time study, including twelve months of internship. Training involves physical, clinical and lab diagnosis. In order to qualify, each ND has successfully completed rigorous medical licensing examinations set by medical regulatory boards.
4. What can one expect when visiting a Naturopath for the first time?
Naturopathic Doctors take time to get to know their clients. Initial visits are approximately an hour in length and involve a full health assessment. ND’s educate clients to take responsibility over their own wellness, providing tools and resources to help individuals achieve and sustain health.
5. What types of treatments are offered?
Naturopathic Doctors work with several modalities, including the use of diet and supplementation, botanical medicine, homeopathy, Asian Medicine and acupuncture, counselling as well as physical medicine. Modalities are selected and combined to best serve the needs of each client.
